“Merging with ECVETS allows us to better serve pets in North Carolina,” said Dr. Sonja Szymeczek, DVM, MSpVM, Diplomate ACVS. “This move has enhanced our ability to deliver continuity of patient and client care with around the clock service and monitoring. It is exciting for our veterinary medical team and the pets of our region.”
Dr. Szymeczek grew up in Kannapolis, North Carolina. She attended North Carolina State University for both her undergraduate degree in Animal Science and Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Her main interests include wound management, soft tissue surgery and orthopedic surgery. She has been a board-certified member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons since 2004, and she has worked in private practice helping performs life saving surgeries on both dogs and cats since.
“Dr. Szymeczek joined the Vets Pets family in 2015 when she opened Points East VSH,” said, Steve Thomas, co-founder, president and chief executive officer of Vets Pets. “In the years since, her practice has flourished, and the community’s demand for additional services, has led to this merger and the expansion of emergency services. We look forward to helping with their continued growth.”
Vets Pets handles the hospital’s practice management responsibilities, such as human resources, continuing education and equipment purchases, which allows on-site staff to focus on practicing medicine and the patients they love.
